Regarding Covid-19 A brief comment is warranted considering the recent significant market movements in risky assets.

While a 'worst-case' scenario, similar to the Spanish flu of 1918, cannot be ruled out, it is unlikely. Medical science has come a long way since the beginning of the last century, and even then, much of the damage occurred through secondary bacterial pneumonia.

As China has proven, it is also possible to contain the coronavirus. China recorded only 42 new cases outside Hubei since February 26. The number of cases within the epicenter of Hubei has also declined.

One could argue that other countries may not be able to implement the same strict measures as China, but consider that Singapore and Hong Kong have also been able to control the outbreak without implementing mass quarantines.

It is worth noting that the number of new cases outside China decreased from 2,410 on March 3 to 2,160 on March 4. While one day does not make a trend, it is an encouraging development.
